Introducing the Martha Corner
I suppose, being Canadian, it should rightly be the Debbie Corner, but who hears of Debbie Travis anymore? This is a sacred pile of special stuff that’s awaiting the day when I can actually use it. There’s a stainless steel pot set, a set of good knives, stainless steel kettle and percolator, all kinds of other wonderful stuff.
Well, I’m proud to announce that some of the Martha stuff has seen action today!! The large skillet with the glass lid, and the glass cutting board with the lemon picture underneath (so cheerful) assisted me in actually cooking something! Yes, I too was flabbergasted. They did a remarkably good job, too! I have dinner for another 2 days, and a generous dinner at that.
Recipe? Well, okay, if you insist. It’s more like a set of guidelines than an actual recipe, but here it is for what it’s worth (feel free to adapt this wildly to suit your taste):
In a large skillet, layer:
- bacon
- cubed steak
- 18-bean mix from SaveOn bulk section (optional; soaked overnight to soften)
- 1 thinly sliced onion
- 2 thinly sliced carrots
- 1 thinly sliced potato
- sprinkle with spices (can sprinkle in middle, too)
- enough water to come up to the underside of the potatoes
Simmer over low heat for about 2 hours or until the potatoes are cooked through. Wolf down (carefully, it stays hot a very long time).
I suppose people who don’t eat “swine” could leave out the bacon, but that’s akin to sacrilege in my world, so I don’t want to know about it, ‘k? :pig: :pig2: Many more dinners like that and I won’t be able to reach past my tummy to the keyboard for these updates.
WOOHOO! Congratulations, both on putting fun things to use and on making something non-pasta. 😉 Sounds very yummy 🙂
As an “anti-swine” person, eeww… but YEAH for the treasures found and used!
